Brief Background on the Institute
“If I wish one thing, the people of my country should be happier during the reign of my son.”(Late His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck). To realize the prophetic vision of the 3rd King, Norbuling Middle Secondary School was established in 1976 for the benefit of children of this locality. The school is located over a flat plain of over 29.33 acres land on the left side of Mao River to the east of Gelephu town.
Initially the school was embarked as a Community Primary School with 130 children along with 4 teaching faculty members headed by Mr. Akhey Dorji. Since then it has actively been catering education not only to the children of Norbuling localities but other feeder schools like Sherzhong CPS, Umling LSS, Chuzargang CPS and Jigmecholing LSS. The school was upgraded to LSS in 2001 with the boarding facilities and WFP assistance for the benefit of classes VII and VIII deserving students who come from far distance of the catchments. In 2008 it was upgraded to Middle Secondary School. It is a co-educational residential school for deserving girls and boys of class seven to ten (VII-X). From 2015 the school is changed to Central School under the Schools Consolidation and Reformation Program. From 2018 the school was upgraded to higher Secondary School with one section of class XI Arts. It is now catering education to more than 1300 students (classes ranging from PP-XI) with boarding facilities catering to more than 630 students (from PP-XI).
